The Phalanx

“ Therefore, I want men in every place to pray,
 lifting up holy hands…”  1 Tim. 2:8

The phalanx is a rectangular mass military formation, usually composed entirely of heavy infantry armed with spears, pikes, sarissas, or similar weapons. The principles of shield wall and spear hedge were almost universally known among the armies of major civilizations throughout history. The term is particularly (and originally) used to describe the use of this formation in Ancient Greek warfare. In Greek texts, the phalanx may be deployed for battle, on the march, even camped, thus describing the mass of infantry or cavalry that would deploy in line during battle. They used shields to block others from getting in. They marched forward as one entity, crushing opponents.   (Wikipedia)

Pastors spread across the front rows of every section of our auditorium early this morning as we gathered on day 13 in our bi-annual 21 days of prayer at Church of the Highlands.   Hands lifted high worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ, stood a spiritual wall of Stephens, men full of faith and of the Holy Spirit (Acts 6:5).

O Lord Jesus, thank You, for calling forth these strong leaders; faithful priests who do according to what is in Your heart and soul (1 Sam. 2:35).  Continually fill them with them with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so they will forever walk in a manner worthy of You, pleasing You in all respects, bearing fruit for Your glory and ever increasing in the knowledge of You, strengthened with all power according to Your glorious might (Col. 1:9-10)! Help them to persistently delight in Your law and meditate on it day and night.  Make them as mighty trees firmly planted by living water which yield fruit in due season; trees that do not wither but prosper (Psalm 1:2-3).  By the words they teach and the songs they sing, may the eyes of the multitudes be opened so the lost may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God; that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Jesus (Acts 26:18).  Help this phalanx of ministers and witnesses be strong in You and in Your mighty power (Eph. 6:1) and fulfill Your purposes in their own generations (Acts 13:36).  May no weapon formed against them or their families ever prosper, for this is the heritage of the servants of the living God and their deliverance is from You (Isa. 54:16-17).

Who stands on the spiritual frontlines for you today?  Pray for them now!
