Walk Carefully

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day and I heard behind me a loud voice…”
                     Rev. 1:10

Over 60 years had passed since the crucified Jesus had risen from the grave, ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the throne of Almighty God, the Father.  Roman authorities now enforced emperor worship causing Christians to face increasing hostility (Zondervan Study Note).  The apostle John was exiled to the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.  Rome’s plans to silence the aging disciple were foiled when Jesus Himself appeared in a vision to His beloved friend and gave to John the revelation of Himself and the account of end-time events for planet earth.

As a young disciple, the apostle John walked with Jesus along the long, dusty roads of the Holy Land.  As an old man, John walked in the Spirit with Jesus along the rocky shores of the small prison island in the Aegean Sea.  In Eph. 5:15-18, God instructs believers to be careful how we walk, not as unwise children but as wise, making the most of our time and being filled with His Spirit.

O Father, please help us daily to experience being in Your presence, hearing Your voice, being filled with Your Spirit, and walking with Jesus as we carry out Your plans and purposes for Your glory.
