Being Stilled

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  Psalm 46:10

My agenda of scheduled activities was literally brought to a stand still today due to a nasty winter cold and fever.  The verse inscribed on a pack of pretty pink and green napkins I recently purchased on sale at a Christian bookstore came to mind, “Be still and know that I am God…”

In the book of Acts, a young man’s agenda was also brought to a sudden halt as he traveled a road to the city of Damascus to deliver threats and even murder to followers of The Way…Christians, disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ!

“As he was traveling…suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ Saul replied, ‘Who are YOU, LORD?’  And He said, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting… But get up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness…to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me!’”
Acts 9:1-5; 26:15-18

In that moment of stillness, Saul (later known as Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ) indeed knew that Jesus is God and through Paul, God was exalted among the nations!  Paul wrote 14 books of the New Testament and for the remainder of his life on earth, proclaimed the good news, the gospel, of Jesus Christ, the Son of God!  Paul wrote:

“Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and singled out for God’s good news which He promised long ago through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures concerning His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord…For I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes!”  Romans 1:1-3,16

“Now…I want to clarify for you the gospel…that Christ died for our sins…that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to Scripture.”  1 Cor. 15:1-4

“For all (every person born on this earth) have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  Rom. 3:23

“For the wages (the pay check) for sin is death (eternal death, forever separated from God in a dark, pain-filled place called hell), but the FREE GIFT of God is eternal LIFE (forever with God on earth and in heaven, a place of perfect peace, joy and love) in Christ Jesus our Lord (Jesus, the One and ONLY way to get to the Father and heaven).”  Rom. 6:23

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart (by relationship not just a religion!) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (from paying for your own sins in hell)….For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!”  Romans 10:9,13

“Therefore there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus… (and nothing) will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Jesus Christ our Lord!”  Romans 8:1,39

One encounter with Jesus, changed Paul’s daily agendas forever!  The next time your plans are brought to a sudden stand still…stop…know that Jesus is God…ask your Lord to make your moment of stillness an opportunity to exalt Him among the nations!

“For momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond comparison!”  2 Cor. 4:17
