The Gospel of Christmas

“Joseph went up from Galilee…to the city of David which is called Bethlehem…in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.  While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.  And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and wrapped Him in cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.  In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields…and an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them…the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today…there has been born a Savior,
who is Christ the Lord!”
 Luke 2:4-11

What is the good news of v.11?  A Savior came to earth!  In Scripture, the word gospel means good news.

“Now, I make known to you…the gospel…by which you are saved…that Christ died for our sins…and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the 3rd day…”
1 Cor. 15:1-4

What is the gospel or good news of 1 Cor. 15?  Christ died for our sins!

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

Who has sinned?  Everyone.

“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23a

All people have sinned.  What is the penalty for sin?  DEATH!  If every person has sinned and the penalty for sin is death, who needs a Savior?  Everybody!

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Remember the good news of 1 Cor. 15?  Christ died for our sins.  What is the good news of Rom. 6:23?   Eternal life is a free gift from God through Jesus.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not (die), but have eternal life!”  John 3:16

How do we receive the free gift of eternal life and escape the penalty of
death?  Believe in Jesus.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6

“…let it be known to all of you...the name of Jesus Christ…there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:10,12

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as LORD, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved!”  Romans 9:10

If I confess Jesus is my LORD, then I am His what?  Servant!

“…the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city…called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph…and the virgin’s name was Mary….the angel said to her,  “Greetings favored one!  The Lord is with you…Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.  And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end!”…And Mary said, “Behold, the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.”
Luke 1:26-38

Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” John 14:15

Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter…(but) I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you: depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’“  Matt. 7:21-23

“And Mary said; ‘My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior…For the Mighty One has done great things for me; and holy is His name.  And His mercy is upon generation after generation to those who fear Him.”…And Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying:  “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us…to grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.”  Luke 1:47-75

“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.  For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; holding a form of religion although they have denied its power; avoid such men as these!”  2 Timothy 3:1-5

“Suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom God is pleased.’ ”
Luke 2:12-14

The Gospel of Christmas:
There has been born a Savior, Christ the LORD.  He has died for your sins.
To receive God’s gift of salvation, you must believe in Jesus.  Do you?
And He must be LORD of your life.  Is He?
